Some Thoughts on Laughter by Carla Riechman
Laughter is a wonderful way to bond people together from all nationalities.
Everyone understands the language of laughter. You can go into any country in the world and when
you hear the sound of laughter, you automatically feel a sense of joy and well-being. You don't
need to understand the language a person is speaking to understand the sounds of laughter.
A smile and a laugh can connect one with strangers in a moment with no difficulty.
Laughter allows us to be more efficient in any work we need to do. When we laugh wholeheartedly
for a prolonged period of time, there is no space for thinking. We become one with our laugh and
our spirit. This allows our mind to relax, and with a relaxed mind, we can then continue with our
work in an enthused manner.
Laughter is a magnificent way to release stress and strain without feeling any negative side
effects. Researchers at Loma Linda University in California found that stress hormones drop
significantly when people laugh, and this means improvement in the immune system. People who
laugh a lot have been known to have less disease in their bodies. Cancer patients have seen
improvement in their conditions with laughter.
The sound of laughter can turn a room full of complaining people into a room of joyful people.
Think of the last time you walked into a room with people feeling sad. When the sound of laughter
starts up, smiles come to the faces of the people, and there is a change in attitude.
Laughter can make our mistakes seem less important and allow learning to take place.
Have you noticed that you learn better when you can laugh at your mistakes? When you realize
that a mistake is only a mistake and not the end of the world, you are more willing to try
the task again to succeed the next time.
